Well Child Visit
As your child’s medical home, the physicians and APP’s, at Complete Children’s Health recommend scheduling Well Child Visits. These visits should take place at regular intervals and allow your primary care provider (PCP) to ensure that your child is developing properly and meeting anticipated milestones. They also give your PCP an opportunity to determine if there are areas of concern to be addressed in a timely fashion. These visits may be called a check up, physical, or annual exam.
At a Well Child Visit we expect that your child:
- Will present without concerns and/or no new problems and there is no change in already established chronic medical problems.
- Will receive all recommended vaccines at the recommended vaccination.
- Will have a physical exam result that is essentially normal or with mild abnormalities not requiring work up or treatment.
At a Well Child Visit you can expect your PCP to:
- Review your child’s medications, allergies, problem list, family history and social history.
- Recommend that your child undergo screening for hearing, vision, blood pressure, depression, and any applicable lab tests (For example, lead, hemoglobin, cholesterol, STD).
- Provide a physical exam.
Sick Visit
As your child’s medical home, our physicians and APP’s are also available to ensure that your child gets appropriate care when they are sick.
At a Sick Visit we expect that your child:
- Is presenting with a new acute illness or condition requiring intervention. For example: fever, cough, sore throat, or rash.
- Needs to be seen for a chronic illness that requires a change in therapy, or monitoring. For example: headaches, sleep disorders, depression, anxiety, wart removal, autism, ADHD, GERD, feeding disorder, fatigue, injury, abdominal pain, constipation, etc.
- Is experiencing a new side effect from a prescribed medication that requires a change in therapy (For example, type of medication, dosage, frequency) or a new family diagnosis that requires work up for a known disease.
At a Sick Visit you can expect your PCP to:
- Listen to your description of the symptoms as you recall them.
- Perform a focused examination based on your description of your child’s symptoms to assess the root of the problem.
- Request applicable lab tests to confirm your child’s diagnosis.
- Order medications or therapies and provide an opportunity for additional follow-up if needed.
- Discuss home care advice and reasons to call or return to clinic.
